Their estate was large, and their residence was at Norland Park, in the centre of their property, where, for many generations, they had lived in so respectable a manner as to engage the general good opinion of their surrounding acquaintance. . . " Sense and Sensibility is a novel by Jane Austen, and was her first published work when it appeared in 1811 under the pseudonym "A Lady". A work of romantic fiction, better known as a comedy of manners, Sense and Sensibility is set in southwest England, London and Kent between 1792 and 1797, and portrays the life and loves of the Dashwood sisters, Elinor and Marianne. The novel follows the young ladies to their new home, a meagre cottage on a distant relative's property, where they experience love, romance and heartbreak. Jane Austen wrote the first draft of the novel in the form of a novel-in-letters (epistolary form) sometime around 1795 when she was about 19 years old, and gave it the title Elinor and Marianne. She later changed the form to a narrative and the title to Sense and Sensibility. *** Nota: Los envíos a España peninsular, Baleares y Canarias se realizan a través de mensajería urgente. Paperback. Jane Austen, Arcturus Publishing Ltd. Sense and Sensibility tells the story of the Dashwood sisters, primarily the two oldest - Elinor and Marianne. Left almost penniless and homeless on the death of their father, they rely on the kindness of relatives and friends to find a new home together with their mother and younger sister. Each needs to resolve their problems by marrying well, but fate takes them on a bumpy road along which the impetuous Marianne falls for the duplicitous Willoughby, and consequently suffers, while Elinor, ever cautious, seems to be unlucky in love. As ever, Austen resolves her heroines' fortunes in her inimitable and witty way. ABOUT THE SERIES: The Arcturus Classics series brings together high-quality paperback editions of classics works, presented with contemporary graphic cover designs. Together they make a wonderful collection which is perfect for any home library. Paperback.

FIRST VOX EDITIONS, except Pride and Prejudice (1938 reprint), de luxe issues, each vol. with colour-printed frontispiece, 7 further full-page colour illustrations and monochrome line-drawn decorations, titles printed in blue and sepia with calligraphic device, marbled endpapers with slightly toned edges, very occasional spots, 8vo, half peacock-blue morocco with blue cloth boards, backstrips gilt-lettered, repeating calligraphic device in gilt, a few edges and corners slightly rubbed, very good. A highly decorative French interpretation, with much emphasis on costume, from Vox (Samuel Monod), critic, illustrator, cartoonist and winner, in 1926, of the Prix Blumenthal. The first volume includes his letter of thanks to the publisher (with facsimile signature), and its translation: '.I have attempted, in each book, by my drawings, to differentiate the individuality and original psychology underlying the superficial similarity of character and plot, and to show how this world, apparently composed entirely of well bought-up young ladies, eligible young gentlemen, and sententious middle-aged ones, really comprises a complete universe by virtue of its variety and dramatic resource.'.
